"The Chosen - an elite Strafer unit of warriors modified by the Crystalline, who have managed to halt or entirely ‘freeze’ the transformation process. They are a transitional stage between human and Glasshead, but unlike the latter, they preserve control over their own mind. This type is called Essene. Essenes are the Chosen “mages,” who rely on their ability to control the Crystalline rather than weapons. They use various superpowers such as barriers, traps, and energy blasts. They are capable of unleashing the energy accumulated in Crystalline Sprouts onto their foes."
